We’re back from vacation. Ugh…we’re back from vacation. Anyway, we were hard at work at the Sullivan County farmhouse test kitchen and hope to share images and stories with you soon.

Le Printemps Arrive!

The 500 Tasty Sandwiches’ test kitchen staff has been working very hard so I’ve decided to take everyone to my father’s villa in Saint-Tropez for a week-long holiday! The blog will be on autopilot (i.e., posting to Facebook via Twitter) but don’t fret none: each day we’ll still post new recipes, cocktails and the quirky culinary musings that you’ve come to expect. Au revoir et bon appétit!

500 Tasty Sandwiches was not selected as a finalist for Saveur’s 2013 Food Blog Awards. Ultimately we believe the blog is too weird for such a contest; that our content is too raw, too ethnic; our recipes just too damned tasty. The decision could also have something to do with what I once said about chicken fricassée but I’m not going to go there because I’m classy.
With that said I remain committed to providing all you curious eaters and cooks with delicious cocktails & recipes from around the world along with our unique brand of quirky culinary musings.

Racism, Disappointment, Food
Did you know that 500 Tasty Sandwiches loses its greatest number of Facebook followers when we post recipes and food-related content in Arabic? We feel food is the lowest common denominator amongst people and that tastiness should unite, not divide. We’re not naive, we realize prejudice is alive and well in the United States but there is always the hope that delicious new flavors can turn fear into curiosity and that curiosity can lead to understanding. It doesn’t always work out that way, though.
Still, we remain committed to providing insight into the world’s many beautiful cuisines which we feel serve as an entree to the world’s many beautiful people.
We’re just disappointed and a little despondent.
Please spread the word and join our Facebook community because all 500 Tasty Sandwiches wants to do is serve curious minds and hungry bellies!

A Housewarming: Some Tasty Bits
We recently celebrated a housewarming for 500 Tasty Sandwiches’ Sullivan County farmhouse test kitchen. The event was catered by Jersey City’s fantastic The Secret Chef, LLC. Was it difficult to relinquish control of the kitchen? Not at all when the chef at the helm is a CIA-graduate whiz and the servers were able to perform culinary/hospitality ballet. Here’s a look at some of the tasty foods we enjoyed…

Italian “gravy” spices were our party favors. Learn how to make your own here.

Gougères and beef tenderloin crostini with horseradish sauce. If you don’t like gougères you are dead inside.

Three types of focaccia, whipped honey butter with pepperoncini calabresi, pickled asparagus, Moroccan oil-cured olives.

Fig and olive tapenade with goat cheese on crostini. Not pictured: the amazing mini grilled cheese with spicy dipping sauce.

The afternoon’s red.

Mousse au chocolat et noisettes. Recipe coming soon!
